To label this as a ‘new’ album would be a lie. ‘Revisited – I’
is a collection of songs spanning the last twenty years
which were rediscovered from a box of CDs when sorting
through the possessions of my late mother.
After collaborating with musician and mastering engineer
Max Richardson to pull this idea together, these first ten
tracks from a series we’ve called ‘Revisited’ are an
exciting crop of songs chosen from an archive spanning
about two hundred recordings, which feature different
musicians, different arrangements, and were written in
different periods of my life.
These songs range from tracks with a full-blown
Americana, Neil Young-esque edge to sparse folk John Martyn-style ballads. The tracks
feature some great musicians including Golty Farabeau on bass and vocals, Scott Marmion
on pedal steel, Carl Brightman on the drums, bassist James Brogan, singer Lou Whitlow, and
guitarist/songwriter Mark Byrne.
The idea was to create a cohesive feel to this album, despite the tracks from ‘Revisited – I’
spanning across twenty years. I’ve tried to make this feel like an album recorded over a
much shorter time span using clever mastering techniques, and a carefully paced running
order taking into consideration the style of writing and lyrical themes throughout the tracks.
There are so many mixed emotions in releasing old songs that have never seen the light of
day since the day they were recorded and songs that frankly I should have released years
ago. Anyway, as ever, the time is now, and the mood is right. I truly hope that you enjoy
listening to ‘Revisited – I’ as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together, albeit twenty years too
late
